Because a plan and an option make a separate scheme. The Direct and Regular plans hold an identical portfolio but charge differently, so their NAVs diverge over time; the Growth and IDCW options differ in whether gains are paid out. Direct, if you invest without an intermediary. It is the same portfolio without the distributor commission, so the expense ratio is lower and the NAV compounds ahead of the Regular plan of the identical fund — for as long as you hold it.
